Foton and Les Halles present FOtones: Mutant Hip Hop #2
Live- and DJ sets by: Kode 9 & The Spaceape (Hyperdub, Rephlex, UK) A rare appearance of this subsonic London duo. Intense dubbed-out dark urban poetry is combined with a selection of bashment influenced bass heavy skank, currently referred to as dubstep and grime. More namedropping? Forward, Rinse FM, Dubplate.net, Rephlex and Tempa are just a few of the references connected to Kode 9 & The Spaceape. Be prepared. Link: Kode 9 Shadow Huntaz (Skam, Bomb Mitte, NL/US) Shadow Huntaz is the collaboration between Funckarma and a 3-man strong MC team, resulting in the perfect marriage between electronic music and advanced hip-hop vocals. Their album 'Corrupt Data' has already established itself as a definite landmark. For Mutant Hip Hop the Funcken brothers are taking control with a live laptop set. Link: Shadow Huntaz Vanno & MC Rebelbase (Foton/T2X, DoubleNegative, BE/UK) The Brussels' breakbeat ambassador teams up with London's MC Rebelbass for an exclusive live set. Vanno's homegrown mutant breaks and beats are combined with fresh vinyl and up-front rhymes from DoubleNegative crew's representative. BE meets UK - Essential low frequency business. Links: Foton, T2X Ghislain Poirier (Chocolate Industries) Montrealer Ghislain Poirier is obsessed with big dirty beats, ragga style riddims and deconstructed hip-hop. He's collaborated with Beans (Warp), DJ/rupture (Tigerbeat6), TTC (Big Dada) and Lotek Hi-Fi (Big Dada). Poirier can be found throwing around dirtiness at his monthly DJ night in Montreal, "Bounce le Gros". Link: Ghislain Poirier Marcellus Wallace & Kaliba (Grimelock, BE) The Grimelock crew grew out of Boups and the Naya Sound System. Influenced by the UK grime and dubstep scene, they started organising events (Grime at Le Gazon 2004) and playing out in Brussels. Expect an energetic and original DJ set from these two dubsters. Artists like Prince Paul, Dr. Israel, The Ill Saint, Sensational, Patric Catani and Spectre are part of the unique Wordsound universe.
